RV RENTAL FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
In an effort to help simplify the rental process we have included a frequently asked questions page. If you do not find the answer to a particular question you may have contact Jana at 805-240-1204 and she can assist you further.
Q. How does renting an RV work?
A. Renting a motorhome or travel trailer is no different than renting an automobile. The rental process begins when you complete the rental reservation application. The process is not long or complicated and we will guide you each step of the way.

Q. Is it hard to drive a motorhome?
A. No, they’re just different. Considering their length, height, width and weight, stopping times and turning radiuses are increased as well as visibility challenges like blind spots. You will also need to be careful backing up. Playtime does offer driver familiarization classes and instruction to make sure you are comfortable driving your rental.

Q. Do I need a special license to drive a motorhome/RV?
A. No, just a valid license from your state or an international license if you reside outside the United States.

Q. Are there any special requirements for renting an RV from Playtime?
A. The renter (customer) must possess a valid driver's license (and have a clean driving record), be at least 25 years of age, and have good credit. Any additional drivers must also be at least 25 years of age and present on the scheduled departure date with their valid drivers license.

Q. What about Insurance?
A. All renters must provide proof of insurance. There are two options for obtaining insurance and they are: (1) Provide an insurance binder thru your personal carrier OR (2) Purchase RV rental insurance thru MBA Choice (www.mbachoice.com) for $15 to $25 per day. Either way you choose we will guide you through this setup to ensure you are properly insured before you leave our lot.

Q. What is the right class motorhome for me, Class A or Class C?
A. To clear up any confusion we should mention that Class A motor-homes are the continuous cab style and Class C motor-homes look more like a van up front. Class A rentals will have more options and are usually plusher inside than a Class C units, however, Class C units are better on mileage and overall cost a little less to rent.

Q. What size RV will I need?
A. Of course the decision is going to be based on the number of people traveling with you but, keep in mind, the maximum occupancy of a motorhome is based on the number of seat belts on board and not the number of people it can sleep comfortably.

Q. What about mileage?
A. Playtime gives renters 150 free miles per day. Additional mileage charges do apply and are based on the number of miles traveled over the daily allowance.

Q. Is a deposit required?
A. A prepayment of $500 is required to reserve your motorhome, and will be applied to your base rental charges. There is also a $1000 to $2000 security deposit due at checkout. This deposit is for fuel or propane if the tanks are not full, excess mileage charges and excess generator usage; as well as any damages to the interior or exterior of the vehicle.

Q. Are there additional costs to consider?
A. Additional charges would include fuel or propane if the tanks are returned less than full, mileage charges for miles over the daily allowance and excess generator usage charges. All charges are explained in detail in the reservation packet and we will answer any questions you have regarding these fees. You will not be surprised with hidden charges or fees.

Q. Do I have to pay for generator use?
A. You are given a 4-hour allowance for generator use. Any hours over the daily allowance will be charged to the renter at $2.50 per hour and will be deducted from the security deposit.

Q. What if the vehicle breaks down?
A. Although it is a very unlikely scenario since all Playtime RV’s are late model, well maintained motor homes, there is always the chance for something to go wrong. Good Sam Roadside Assistance is available and we will explain the coverage and benefits to this program. Information will be included in your reservation packet. You will also receive an emergency contact number to reach a Playtime technician.

Q. What happens if I receive a traffic ticket or parking violation?
A. The renter is responsible for reporting and payment of all parking/traffic violations at rental termination. Non-reporting of parking/traffic violations breaches the rental contract and will result in administrative charge of up to $100 dollars.

Q. How will I know how to operate all the extra appliances and equipment on the RV?
A. All first time renters are required by our Insurance Company to watch a 60-minute instructional video that explains all key features associated with the RV you are renting. Most customers elect to view this video on their scheduled departure date however you may contact the rental department to make an appointment to watch the video before hand. We also conduct a “walk-around,” on the day you depart, where we will go over anything you would like to go over before you depart. We want you to be comfortable before you head out on your trip.

Q. What is your cancellation policy?
A. If you cancel your reservation 30 days or more from your pickup date then you will be refunded your full prepayment less $75. If you cancel your reservation with less than 30 days but more than 15 days then we will refund $250 of your prepayment. If you cancel with less than 14 days notice, or if you “no-show” on the day of your scheduled pickup, you will receive no refund.

Q. What is your return policy?
A. Rental units must be returned by 2:00 pm on the scheduled return date. If the unit is not returned by that time you will be charged $50 per hour up to the full daily rental rate. Late arrival or pickups are available if pre-arranged. There is a $50 fee for late departures or arrivals.

Q. Must the RV be clean when I return it?
A. NO, you are not required to clean the motorhome before you return it. We would rather you did not clean it. The last thing you will want to do upon your return is wash a motorhome.

Q. Can I smoke in the RV?
A. Smoking is NEVER allowed inside our rental units. Renters are responsible for any damage or specialized cleaning caused by smoking.

Q. Can we bring pets along?
A. Some of our units are pet friendly. Units that do allow pets require an additional $100 dollar deposit and pets are limited to 20 lbs or less. There are no restrictions for seeing eye dogs.

Q. Do you allow towing with your rentals?
A. Towing is only allowed with our Class A and Class C rental units equipped to handle towing. Please ask a rental agent about other towing restrictions.
Q. Are there any travel restrictions you impose on your rental motor homes?
A. Our rental vehicles are not allowed in Mexico, Alaska, on beaches, sand or logging roads, on the Apache Trail in Arizona, or any other area where telecommunications are not readily available. Travel to Death Valley is prohibited from May through October.

Q. Can I use the ladder to get on the roof?
A. Access to the vehicle roof is forbidden. Ladders on rental units are for use by Playtime personnel only. Customers are responsible for any roof damage.

Q. What type of gas mileage do your rental RV’s get?
A. Mileage is going to be different by class and driving conditions. A good general rule of thumb is to expect Class C RV’s between 9-13 MPG and Class A RV’s between 7-10 MPG.
